Take a look at the China inspired fashion editorial behind the scenes.
They’re the places where time appears to stand still, the same places where a whisper of oriental flavor suffices to spark the illusion of an ancient, living, breathing universe, harbored safely in the heart of the urban jungle but playing by its own rules, seeming forbidden and inviting at once; places made of shadows and lights, where cultures clash and fairytales are being summoned to life … once upon a time in China.
Lauren Trotter does the Asian heroine lensed by Katya Tsyganova, her wardrobe (styled by Aisha Rae) embodying her Orientalist penchant with traditional motifs adorning contemporary silhouettes, with the old glamour being remixed into the new, a tribute to Asia rewritten in golden ink.
Dramatic make-up by Crystal Liz and blunt hair by Castillo round off the series of images that you can check out in full at the gallery above.
Chinatown is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles, California that became a commercial center for Chinese and other Asian businesses in Central Los Angeles in 1938. The area includes restaurants, shops and art galleries but also has a residential neighborhood with a low-income, aging population of about 10,000 residents.
The original Chinatown developed in the late 19th century, but it was demolished to make room for Union Station, the city’s major ground-transportation center. A separate commercial center, known as “New Chinatown,” opened for business in 1938.
There are two schools and a branch library in Chinatown, as well as a city park, a state park and a medical center and hospital. Many motion pictures have been filmed in the area.
